Liverpool expect an imminent offer for Xherdan Shaqiri, according to reports. The Reds have set their price.
This is from the Liverpool Echo. They claim Liverpool are awaiting an offer from Lazio for Xherdan Shaqiri soon.
They also set their asking price – £ 13million. This is the price they paid for him back in 2018 by signing it from Stoke City.
And the Reds believe Lazio will make an imminent offer. They expect the Italians to wait until Shaqiri is done with Switzerland at Euro 2020.
Switzerland will face Spain on Friday, opening the door to an imminent deal if the Swiss were to leave the competition.
Liverpool await offer from Shaqiri
This actually backs up a TuttoMercatoWeb report during the weekend. Italian media claimed Lazio had named Shaqiri as their transfer target of choice this summer.
You can read the thoughts on this report here.
He says Lazio expected things to “get concrete” in the coming weeks. Again, that matches what the Liverpool Echo reports.
The only sticking point could be the fees, then. Shaqiri is 29 and doesn’t play regularly for Liverpool – we imagine Lazio will try to lower the asking price.
But we can’t see them succeeding with it. Liverpool have a habit of demanding a price and sticking to it, whether it’s for big deals like with Philippe Coutinho or more modest issues like Harry Wilson last summer.
The Reds will almost certainly get their money’s worth, if Lazio are truly committed to Shaqiri. This appears to be the case, given that these are now several reports from two countries signaling their intention.
So these will likely be Shaqiri’s final weeks as a Liverpool player. Negotiations need to take place, of course, but we don’t know why he would reject them.
Lazio can offer him regular football that Liverpool cannot. Harvey Elliott is there to take his place with the Reds and that will eventually push him out the door.
