ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister’s special assistant for political communication, Shahbaz Gill, said the Metro Bus bidding process was not transparent and caused huge financial losses to the Treasury public.

Addressing a press conference alongside PTI Central Punjab President Ijaz Chaudhry at the governor’s house in Lahore on Wednesday, he said the Metro Bus project was awarded by the government of Shahbaz Sharif to a single foreign bidder in $ 3.80 per kilometer in 2012, when no other or a foreign company was invited to bid, adding that the PTI government had awarded the same project at $ 1.86 per kilometer in 2020 and saved $ 1.94 per kilometer. kilometer for the country.

“Awarding a project without fair competition was a dishonest practice with a waste of public tax money by paying a high price,” he said, adding that was the reason they called Metro Bus as “Jangla Bus”.

He said PTI was not against Metro Bus but opposed the process in which Shahbaz Sharif launched Metro Bus in Lahore, adding that Shahbaz Sharif awarded the contract to a foreign company of his choice to manage 45 bus fleets under questionable circumstances. Gill said he was summoned to court to challenge Metro Bus’s questionable offer, adding that he would appear in court unlike JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman, who refused to appear in court .

Gill said Metro Bus was owned by people because it was bought with taxpayer money and not owned by executives or politicians, adding that the questionable deal proved the point of view of the Prime Minister Imran Khan said the old rulers were corrupt and insincere with the country. .

He said Shahbaz Sharif influenced the Punjab’s Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) to have his son-in-law Ali Imran declared innocent of corruption charges, adding that ACE had not been allowed to work freely for the past 10 years. years of reign of Shahbaz Sharif as Chief Minister of Punjab. .

Gill said the former rulers lost billions of rupees to the treasury through costly deals.

Meanwhile, Shahbaz Gill accused PML-N workers of attacking his car. According to media reports, SAPM said the incident occurred while returning from an audit court in Lahore. He said his car was hit and the police rescued him.

Gill said things like that happen when you’re fighting the Mafia. “I have complete faith in Almighty Allah and I will not panic. I am Prime Minister Imran Khan’s soldier and I will not back down, ”he said.

Meanwhile, the company has filed a claim for damages against Shahbaz Gill for his statement. During their court appearance, PML-N activists chanted slogans against Shahbaz Gill.
